Mac
Geeks and Hot Chix Pix
above: screensaver by John
Nascimento
The cat's out of the bag (no pun intended). I am a big Mac
geek. I work on a G4 dual 800 running Jaguar (10.2.8) and
I even boot into Classic (OS 9) occassionally. I am NOT
ready to give up some of the things OS 9 affords me, no
matter what the latest articles in the latest Mac zines
say. The "letters to the editor" usually tell
a different story than the letters FROM the editor. So no
matter how blazingly fast the new G5 beasts are purported
to be - unless you are one of those freaks and geeks that
MUST have the latest everything - don't be in too big a
hurry to pay a couple grand for the "privelege"
of being a beta
tester. Oh, and I can't wait till Tiger comes
out and all the people whocouldn't wait to install the new
OS start writing those nasty letters while the Mac rags'
reviewers tout it as the second coming. Of course, eventually,
it will be, but by then you're kids will have kids and mac
will be offering a sneak peak at Cheetah.
So, what does this
have to do with the above cool picture of the naked chick,
anyway? Not a thing. But if you want to get that photo or
choose from hundreds of mind-blowing desktop backgrounds
and screensavers for your Mac, check out the link to the
Apple Collection on my linkage

- Is This
the iLife, or What?
There is no
question about it. The iLife Suite is the best value in
the world for many reasons and I will eventually cover them
all. Originally, most of the apps in the iLife Suite (iMovie,
iPhoto, iTunes and iDVD came bundled on most new Macs, but
with the release of iLife '04, it came with a price. The
main reason the price was tacked on was the addition of
one application that will forever change the way we make
music - Garageband.
I could almost
have held off buying iLife '04 a little longer were it not
for the inclusion of Garageband, however, I really wanted
to get iMovie 4 as well (more on that later). I already
owned Soundtrack which came bundled with Final Cut Pro,
so why would I want Garageband, too? It's a no-brainer.
Garageband can impliment MIDI, plus it has real instrument
presets that Soundtrack just ain't got. And - those 4000
loops that Soundtrack comes with with can be easily indexed
and utilized by Garageband, too!
If you have a .Mac
account, you have access to Apples great animated tutorial
for getting started with all of the incredible programs
in iLife. There are some other fine resources out there
including 3rd party tutorials and software for all the iLife
'04 applications which I will get into in the near future.
Also check the linkage
page for links to some of the best places to download
free or very inexpensive nuggets for expanding your capabilities
beyond expectation.
